Group Germain Hotels invests in the transformation of Le Germain Hotel Montreal
Montréal (Québec), June 19 2018 – Quebec hotelier Group Germain Hotels is pleased to announce renovations to its Le Germain Hotel located in downtown Montreal. This $20 million investment will allow the Group to offer visitors a hotel experience that is perfectly in line with guests’ needs, while embodying the latest trends in terms of design and amenities.
“This major transformation will allow Le Germain Hotel Montreal to enhance the experience of our guests, in addition to allowing us to remain competitive in the face of the tremendous growth we are currently witnessing in the hotel industry in Montreal," said Christiane Germain, co-founder and co-president of Group Germain Hotels. “We are pleased to be investing in this property, which was, at the time of its opening in 1999, the first boutique hotel in Montreal.”
The project will include work to both the exterior of the building and the interior of the hotel. Envisioned by Montreal architecture firm LEMAYMICHAUD Design Architecture, the new version of Le Germain Hotel Montreal will feature a façade complete with a splendid outside marquee while the lobby, restaurant and bar will also be completely refurbished. As the building was constructed in 1967, the revitalization of the rooms will be inspired by the seventies as a tribute to this iconic period. New meeting rooms will be introduced and the fitness room will move to a higher floor in order to give guests a superb view of the city during their workout sessions.
Tourisme Montréal’s president and CEO applauded Group Germain Hotels, a leader in Quebec’s hospitality industry, for their commitment to offering tourists an unforgettable experience. “This major renovation project is excellent news. Not only does it improve downtown Montréal’s tourist product, it also enhances the quality of the hospitality extended to visitors,” said Yves Lalumière.
“Le Germain Hotels no longer need presentation, they are a Quebec and Canadian pride,” adds Mario Bédard, Vice President of Real Estate Investments at Industrial Alliance. “It is an honor to count them among our neighbors and this rejuvenation will certainly contribute to the prestige of Mansfield Street on which we are also located. The presence of Le Germain Hotel brings an important value to the district and we support them in this exciting project.”
As a result of the major work to be carried out on the interior and exterior of the building, the hotel on Mansfield Street will close in October 2018 and reopen in May 2019, just in time to welcome visitors for the summer season.

Brossard (Quebec), June 11 2018 — Group Germain Hotels is pleased to announce the official opening of the new Alt+ Hotel Quartier DIX30 located in Brossard, on Montreal’s South Shore. This brand new banner offers a unique accommodation experience thanks to its loft-style boutique hotel concept.
Strategically located at the intersection of highways 10 and 30 on Montreal’s South Shore, the hotel is close to several shops, restaurants, theatres and recreation centres, making it a great location for business and leisure travellers. This is Group Germain Hotel's second property in the area following the opening of Alt Hotel Quartier DIX30 in 2007, which was a resounding success from the beginning. The new Alt+ Hotel Quartier DIX30 is located in the Square, near renowned shops such as Williams-Sonoma, Browns and Apple.
“ The creation of the Alt+ brand is the result of a strategic decision that aims to continually meet the expectations of our guests," stated Christiane Germain, co-president of Group Germain Hotels. "The new Alt+ Hotel is the perfect complement to a visit to the Montérégie region and Quartier DIX30, and we may eventually bring this new hotel banner to other cities in Canada," she said.
Decidedly contemporary and trendy, the hotel was designed by the Quebec firm LEMAYMICHAUD Architecture Design. The 168 studio style rooms feature a vibrant design to be enjoyed to the fullest. Bright and spacious, they offer a number of thoughtful little extras such as a modular desk-dining table, an open wardrobe inviting guests to unpack their luggage, as well as a kitchenette particularly well suited for longer stays. For business meetings and special events, the hotel has six multipurpose rooms offering breathtaking views of the Montreal skyline, totalling nearly 5,000 square feet.
Bar Les Cousins by Atelier Zébulon Perron
Spirits, syrups, tonics and bitters prepared with local ingredients, along with several refreshing variations on the gin & tonic, are on the menu at Bar Les Cousins and will certainly appeal to those who love perfectly crafted cocktails. Carefully selected local beers and wines are also offered. Located on the ground floor of the hotel, the space designed by Atelier Zébulon Perron is both vintage and contemporary thanks to the use of high quality materials combined with a rich palette of colours. With its friendly and cozy atmosphere, Bar Les Cousins is the new address for a relaxed happy hour...or happy hours.
Brasserie T by Toqué!
Beginning in the Fall of 2018, hotel guests and visitors from surrounding areas will be able to enjoy a meal at renowned Chef Normand Laprise’s Brasserie T. Adjacent to the hotel, Brasserie T will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner in addition to meeting the catering needs of special events taking place at the hotel.
Reflecting Group Germain Hotel’s sense of innovation and local purchasing philosophy, Quebec collaborators are involved in various aspects of Alt+ Hotel. For example, the uniforms worn by employees are designed by Montreal retailer Frank and Oak; the sumptuous bath products are exclusive creations from Ruby Brown perfume house; and the dish towels - for the kitchenette in the rooms - are handmade in Hochelaga-Maisonneuve by Bigarade.

Group Germain Hotels and Homes by Avi to build an Alt Hotel on the site
Calgary, AB - April 17, 2018 West Campus Development Trust (the Trust), Canadian hotelier Group Germain Hotels and Calgary-based Homes by Avi celebrate the latest addition to Calgary’s Northwest University District (U/D) development plans, announcing the construction of an Alt Hotel, a brand recognized for its contemporary design, eco-responsible features and affordable luxury.
Anticipated to open in the fall of 2020, the new Alt Hotel will be 15-storeys, 156 rooms, and include a retail and residential component as well as an underground parkade. The hotel will incorporate the brand’s signature colourful and creative design, featuring a welcoming lobby, café and restaurant. The building, by LEMAYMICHAUD Architecture Design, will provide a dynamic and seamless street-level experience as the hotel and residences are situated above a retail podium with a diverse selection of shops and services.

Similar to the Trust’s approach that embraces unconventional thinking, the Alt Hotel brand is recognized as a creative market leader in the Canadian hotelier industry, with its unmatched features and services, and embracing key values such as sustainability and supporting the local community. The hotel will be an ideal home-away-from-home base for the patrons of the neighboring sports training facilities, university, research centers, care facilities and hospitals.
“We are thrilled to build a new hotel at the University District because we’re investing in an up-and-coming community that is future-focused,” adds Jean-Yves Germain, co-president of Group Germain Hotels. “Partnering with The Trust and Homes by Avi means that we are working with like-minded, creative people to develop a new and inspiring hotel in Calgary that is contemporary and intelligent in design – the third Group Germain Hotel property in Alberta, and 19th hotel in Canada.”
The hotel is the second partnership project for Homes by Avi and Group Germain Hotel, to introduce the new and exciting mixed-use development to U/D. The residential component will be developed by Homes by Avi’s award-winning multifamily division, Avi Urban. Incorporated into the development will be Avi Urban’s 39th residential project, named August, with approximately 120 sophisticated urban apartment condominiums spread over five stories. Surrounded by accessible retailers in and around U/D, August will offer a premier level of amenities for homebuyers eager to call this emerging community home.
